Jewish Historical Museum
History of the Jews in the Netherlands
The exhibition Religion in the Great Synagogue (1671) deals with Jewish religious practices during Jewish holidays and important occasions such as birth, reaching maturity, marriage and mourning. Dutch Jews share their own perceptions of religion in a series of short films.
In the upper galleries the exhibition History of the Jews in the Netherlands (1600-1900) shows the experiences of the first Jews in the Netherlands. The recent history of the Jews (from 1900) is presented in the galleries of the New Synagogue (1752). Objects, historical film footage and personal stories give a direct impression of Jewish life before, during and after the Second World War.
